MOSCOW, 23 August (BelTA) – The CSTO will adopt a consolidated position on the situation in Afghanistan in the near future, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas said at a video briefing held after the emergency videoconference session of the CSTO Collective Security Council on 23 August, BelTA has learned.
According to Stanislav Zas, today the heads of state spoke of the need to adopt the CSTO consolidated position on the situation in Afghanistan and around it soon. “We will carry out such work in the near future and during a session [of the Collective Security Council] which is due in September we will make a joint statement on the situation in Afghanistan to express the consolidated position of all our states on the current situation,” the secretary general said.
The emergency session of the CSTO Collective Security Council was held on the initiative of Russia. It was chaired by Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko attended the meeting. Apart from the leaders of the CSTO countries, the event was also attended by Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
