CSTO sees escalation risks in Ukraine due to NATO

YEREVAN, 23 November (BelTA) – There are escalation risks in Ukraine due to NATO's actions, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said at a joint meeting of the CSTO Ministerial Council, the Defense Ministers Council and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO member states in Yerevan on 23 November, BelTA has learned.

We have been working to strengthen the unity of the CSTO states, and step up activities in all areas, Stanislav Zas noted. "As the international situation has deteriorated recently, these efforts are particularly important," he said.

As for the Eastern European region, Stanislav Zas stated that NATO countries are building up military forces, improving military infrastructure, approaching the western borders of the CSTO zone of responsibility. "Of course, this creates additional challenges, including to our organization. Massive support of Ukraine from the North Atlantic Alliance and other states can lead to the escalation of the conflict through dragging other states in it," the secretary general said.
