CSTO security council secretaries meet online to discuss collective security

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Collective security issues were on the agenda of a session of the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) held via videoconferencing, BelTA learned from the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus.

“A session of the Committee of Secretaries of Security Councils of the CSTO member states took place on 17 November via videoconferencing. Deputy State Secretary of Belarus' Security Council Mikhail Puzikov took part in the session. The CSTO security council secretaries exchanged opinions about the current challenges and threats to collective security and discussed measures to respond to them. The meeting heard out a report of the chairman of the coordination council of the heads of competent authorities to counteract illegal drug trafficking about the performance of the council and ways to step up efforts in this field,” the State Secretariat noted.

The participants of the event were briefed on the post-election events in Belarus. They stressed the unacceptability of interference in internal affairs and the importance of preserving stability in the society.

The committee passed a statement on intensifying cooperation and coordinated action to counteract international terrorism and the spread of terrorist and extremist ideology. Moreover, the committee approved several documents on the development and improvement of the legal framework, military-economic and military cooperation between the CSTO member states.
