CSTO secretary general, Armenian acting foreign minister discuss ways to reduce tensions in region

MOSCOW, 23 September (BelTA) – Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas met with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Vahe Gevorgyan. Stanislav Zas heads a CSTO mission sent to Armenia, BelTA has learned.

Stanislav Zas and Vahe Gevorgyan discussed the current situation and the joint political and diplomatic measures that need to be taken in order to reduce tensions in the region.

The CSTO mission is in Armenia in line with the decision made by an extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council on 13 September. The mission includes representatives of the CSTO member states, who are employed by CSTO bodies.

The mission was tasked with evaluating the situation and preparing a substantial report on the situation in the region for the CSTO heads of state. The mission also has to work out proposals on deescalating the tensions in several areas near the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
