MOSCOW, 24 August (BelTA) – The Coordination Council of the Heads of the Competent Authorities of the CSTO Member States on Combating Illegal Migration convened for a meeting at the CSTO Crisis Response Center on 24 August, CSTO spokeswoman Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA.
CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov recalled that in the run-up to the emergency session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, the heads of state discussed in detail the situation with refugees and migration flows from Afghanistan. The presidents instructed to draw up appropriate proposals for the next session of the Collective Security Council in Dushanbe.
“The members of the Coordination Council will continue to continuously monitor the situation related to the movement of citizens from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in search of asylum. Taking into account the military-political situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, in the event of a potential threat of mass movement of asylum seekers across the CSTO borders, Tajikistan will immediately notify the CSTO Secretariat," the spokesman said.
“The participants of the meeting approved the results of the work done in the reporting period to control migration processes and counter illegal migration, and also confirmed the need for further joint efforts in order to comprehensively counter illegal migration," Vladimir Zainetdinov added.
