MINSK, 25 August (BelTA) – Member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) should take a closer look at the situation in Afghanistan and decide on response measures. Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Sergei Rachkov made the statement on the air of the Belarusian TV channel ONT, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Rachkov noted that experts expect the situation in Afghanistan to only get worse in the near future, the region will face serious challenges and threats. “This is why the Collective Security Treaty Organization should transition from some declarative discussions and appeals to very serious work on the situation and our response to it,” he said.
In turn, the political observer Gleb Lavrov noted that Western countries are doing everything to set on fire the situation in Afghanistan. “At a G7 summit it was very clearly stated that the Western world will contact Afghanistan only if Talibs observe international agreements and humanitarian law. Judging by how evacuation from the Kabul airport proceeds, everything has been done not to observe humanitarian law over there,” he pointed out.
