MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) – The members of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Gennady Lepeshko and Sergei Rachkov went to Moscow to participate in the fourth conference of chairpersons of committees (commissions) of the parliaments of the Collective Security Treaty Organization member states in charge of overseeing international relations, defense, and security, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Rachkov said: “During the conference we discussed matters of coordinating the foreign policy positions of the CSTO member states on international and regional security problems, the improvement of operation of the CSTO’s military component, and the counteraction of foreign interference in domestic affairs of the states.”
During the conference the Belarusian delegation presented important information relating to the development of the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st century, the parliamentarian noted. “Our parliamentarians presented an analysis of the military political situation in the European region,” he stressed. “We also informed parliamentarians of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization about results of the presidential election in the Republic of Belarus and efforts to ensure our country’s electoral sovereignty. Reports on ways to ensure biological security and pooling efforts of the CSTO states for counteracting the external interference in domestic affairs of our states were exceedingly substantial and up-to-date. Appropriate recommendations were adopted as a result of the conference.”
Gennady Lepeshko suggested several measures to counteract bioterrorism and other criminal intrusions, including by developing model laws on the oversight over foreign influence and on ensuring electoral sovereignty.
The parliamentarian noted that Belarus had already created centers for protecting biological resources. It allows counteracting aggressive actions of terrorists. “To ignore bioterrorism threats is to sign your death warrant. The USA uses dual-purpose researches to create weapons and it is already the beginning of a global catastrophe,” he stressed. Gennady Lepeshko mentioned the importance of reinforcing ties of the Collective Security Treaty Organization with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Commonwealth of Independent States for the sake of jointly counteracting terrorism and drugs trafficking.
