MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Sabotage and reconnaissance units are operating from the Ukrainian side and enter the Belarusian territory among other things. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich made the statement on the air of the Belarusian Defense Ministry's TV channel VoyenTV, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Volfovich said: “Look at what is happening at southern borders of Belarus, in the territory of the once friendly and brotherly country of Ukraine. Today an armed force of about 10,500 people has been deployed in the Rovno direction, 4,500 people in the Chernigov direction, and over 5,000 people in the Kiev direction. Engineering measures are being implemented along the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. Mines are being planted, logjams are being arranged, and sabotage and reconnaissance units are operating in the area and enter the Belarusian territory among other things.”

In his words, the strength of the forces deployed in Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia increased in the last two years to 37,500 people at present. The strength of the air force has been multiplied and now exceeds 135 combat aircraft in the countries Belarus borders on. The number of recon flights has increased to 6-7 flights along the Belarusian border every day, the official noted.

Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Anatoly Lappo pointed out that the Belarusian border service has virtually been in reinforced mode for the last 12 months. “The army helps us because our forces and assets are limited for such a situation,” he added.
