MOSCOW, 23 May (BelTA) - The prime ministers of the CIS countries will meet in Turkmenistan on 24 May, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press in Moscow on 23 May, BelTA has learned.
"On 24 May, a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council will be held in Ashgabat under the chairmanship of Russia," Maria Zakharova said.
According to her, the prime ministers will consider topical issues of trade and economic cooperation in the CIS and a number of draft documents in the field of energy, transport, ecology and intellectual property protection, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
In the coming months, the CIS is planning to hold the events at the level of human rights commissioners, heads of the defense ministries, heads of migration agencies, special services and financial intelligence units, and also the ministerial consultations on countering new challenges and threats, on consular and legal issues, and on economic cooperation.
"The central event of the Russian presidency will be a meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council in Moscow on 8 October which will traditionally be preceded by a meeting of the CIS foreign ministers," Maria Zakharova said.
She noted that Russia is successfully implementing its CIS chairmanship concept: more than 35 events have already been held, including a meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council held in Minsk in April.
