CIS plenipotentiary representatives to meet in Vitebsk on 25 August

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – The CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives will hold an on-site meeting in Vitebsk on 25 August, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The Council will discuss five items/ Among them will be the performance of the CIS Interstate Environmental Council. The Interstate Council is tasked with coordinating the policy in the field of environmental protection in the CIS, preparing recommendations for approximation of laws, promoting common methodological approaches in environmental economics and developing an interstate system of environmental monitoring for collection, assessment, forecast and exchange of environmental information.

The Council is in charge of interstate and regional programs and projects in the field of environmental management and environmental safety, common approaches to the restoration of rare and endangered species of animals and plants that have common habitat areas in the CIS, methods to prevent the influence of genetically modified organisms on biological diversity. It carries out coordinated scientific activities in the field of environmental protection. It is responsible for the exchange of experience and advanced training programs,the system of environmental expertise, and promotion of alternative energy.

The Council will discuss the agenda of the CIS Heads of Government Council meeting due in Nur-Sultan on 28 October, the status of the action plan to the Year of Fold Art and Cultural Heritage in the CIS in 2022. The plan consists of six sections and includes 89 events to preserve folk art traditions, historical and cultural heritage, cultural heritage in the field of arts, literature, and also in sport and tourism. Among them are both traditional events and new projects.

The plan is meant to fulfill one of the main goals of the development of the CIS provided for by the CIS Concept for the Further Development, namely to create favorable conditions for the promotion of common humanistic values of the peoples of the CIS countries, including respect for culture, languages and traditions of other peoples.

When in Vitebsk, the CIS permanent plenipotentiary representatives and a delegation of the CIS Executive Committee are set to meet with senior officials of Vitebsk Oblast, tour the Belwest footwear company, the Ilya Repin museum-estate in Zdravnevo, lay flowers at the memorial complex in honor of the Soviet soldiers-liberators, partisans and underground fighters of Vitebsk Oblast in Victory Square.
