CIS observation mission to monitor parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan

MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) - Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly Iliyas Umakhan will lead the CIS observation mission for the elections to the Mazhilis of Kazakhstan's parliament. His candidature was approved during a meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives at the CIS charter and other bodies in Minsk on 24 November, BelTA has learned.

The CIS mission will be deployed in Kazakhstan on 21 December.

The main task of the CIS observation mission is to assess the election campaign for its compliance with the national legislation and to assist in the holding of free and democratic elections. The mission will be guided by the laws of Kazakhstan, the CIS regulations and the generally recognized principles and norms of international law in the field of elections.

The parliamentary elections in Kazakhstan will be held on 10 January 2021.
