China’s Li Hui: International security faces unprecedented challenges

MINSK, 31 October (BelTA) – In the context of the tense international situation, the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security is of great importance, Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui said as he addressed the conference in Minsk on 31 October, BelTA has learned. 

"The conference provides an opportunity for representatives of various countries to discuss international and regional security. Against the backdrop of thedifficult international and regional situation, this conference is of great importance," Li Hui said.

He continued: "International security is currently facing unprecedented challenges. The risk of escalation and spread of regional conflicts is increasing. The number of armed conflicts in the world is 56, which represents a historical record since the Second World War. 92 countries are involved in conflicts beyond their borders." 

The Special Representative of the Chinese government also noted that the global arms race is gaining momentum. Thus, global military spending has been increasing for eight years in a row, and half of it falls on NATO countries.
