MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – Having assumed the rotating presidency in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, China will host the 25th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Belarus Zhang Wenchuan told BelTA.
“During the SCO presidency, China will hold more than 100 conferences and events in politics, security, economy and humanitarian matters,” the diplomat noted.
Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan pointed out that the Chinese side has three ideas regarding the work during the presidency: “The first is related to the topic of the SCO's sustainable development. The second is the development of two main documents, namely the 2025 SCO Summit declaration and the SCO development strategy for the next stage. The third idea has to do with the implementation of the slogan ‘Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move’.
“The Chinese side will focus on promoting business cooperation within the SCO across five fields, namely consolidating political mutual trust, safeguarding common security, promoting shared prosperity, strengthening people-to-people exchanges, and enhancing the effectiveness of the SCO mechanism,” the head of the diplomatic mission continued.
According to him, this year is the beginning of the second golden decade in the joint construction of the Belt and Road initiative.
“The Chinese side is ready to work with other countries and promote high-quality construction of the Belt and Road initiative through more pragmatic and effective measures,” the ambassador emphasized. “China is also ready to align the Belt and Road with the development strategies of the SCO member countries, build more cooperation platforms, and actively promote cooperation in trade, economy and investment, finance and energy and also digital economy and green development.”
“In addition, on the basis of the landmark initiatives and effective projects, we plan to create more points of cooperation and growth, contribute to the global development initiative taking root in the region, unlock the economic growth potential of each country, unite the efforts of states to move towards modernization, and turn the SCO into a solid foundation for the common development and prosperity of all countries,” Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan summarized.
The People's Republic of China will chair the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2024-2025.
