MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) - China is against external interference in the internal affairs of Belarus, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Geng Shuang said in his speech at a meeting of the UN Security Council convened to discuss the Ryanair Flight 4978 incident in Belarus' skies in 2021, BelTA has learned.
The China's permanent representative said: “ICAO, as a specialized UN agency responsible for civil aviation, must comply with the principles and objectives of the Chicago Convention and fulfill its mandate, must exclude political interference, listen to all parties, consider their concerns on an equal basis and draw conclusions that can stand the test of time.”
He also emphasized: “China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that are not authorized by the council, as well as sanctions that have no basis in international law, sanctions against Belarusian airlines. Restrictions of the normal aviation order are detrimental to the development of international civil aviation.”
“These restrictions should be lifted immediately,” Geng Shuang said.
The Chinese representative added: “Now some members of the council have mentioned the internal situation in Belarus. I would like to point out that the situation in Belarus is an internal matter of that country. China has always respected the Belarusian people and their choice of development according to the national conditions while respecting the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Belarus.”
“We oppose external interference in the internal affairs of Belarus,” said the Chinese representative.
