“President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez is scheduled to pay an official visit to fraternal Belarus on 2 December, which is another testimony to good relations between our countries, including our parliaments,” Santiago Perez Benitez said. “The deputy chairman of the Belarusian parliament has already visited Cuba this year, we maintain very close ties with parliamentary committees, the friendship group. We are building on these good contacts. In such difficult situations in which Cuba and Belarus find themselves, it is very important to communicate, interact both politically and economically,” he noted.

According to him, Belarus and Cuba should step up economic cooperation. “We have always had and will have potential in this field, despite the sanctions. Yet, sanctions sometimes prompt our entrepreneurs to work harder searching for opportunities. And I think that we can significantly advance our cooperation in healthcare, for example. Right now, a delegation of the Healthcare Ministry and a number of pharmaceutical companies of Belarus is visiting Cuba. We have also huge potential when it comes to maintenance of Belarusian equipment operated in Cuba,” the ambassador added.

On 22 November the Cuban ambassador is meeting with Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko. They are set to discuss interparliamentary contacts, including interaction through friendship groups, bilateral cooperation in trade, economy and humanitarian matters, as well as the upcoming visit to Belarus of Juan Esteban Lazo Hernandez.
