CEC suggests dates for parliamentary elections in Belarus

MINSK, 27 May (BelTA) - The Central Election Commission proposes to hold the elections to the House of Representatives on 17 November and the elections to the Council of the Republic on 7 November, Head of the Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina told the media, BelTA has learned.

The CEC head informed that during the forthcoming meeting with the head of state “she will suggest 17 November for the elections to the House of Representatives and 7 November for the elections to the Council of the Republic.”

Once the president sets the date for the parliamentary elections, the work on relevant decrees will begin. According to Lidia Yermoshina, it must be done in July.

This week, the CEC is holding a session to determine the average number of voters per district, approve the methodological guidelines for precinct, territorial and district election commissions.

In his address to the nation and the parliament, the head of state Aleksandr Lukashenko said that Belarus will hold the parliamentary elections in 2019 and the presidential election campaign in 2020.
