MINSK, 29 September (BelTA) – Problems in the world can and should be resolved by political means through cooperation, Valery Mitskevich, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, head of the Belarus-China interparliamentary working group at the National Assembly, said at the online session to mark the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, BelTA has learned.
“Belarusian parliamentarians will continue to facilitate the implementation of President Xi Jinping's Belt and Road initiative on multilateral platforms, including at the OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group established at the OSCE PA annual session in Minsk in July 2017 with the active participation of the Belarusian delegation. Belarus supports China's efforts to defend its national interests, such as the integrity of China and the ‘One China' policy. For our part, we express gratitude to China for the invaluable support it provides to Belarus in the international arena as our country tries to protect its independence and freedom from outside interference. We have no doubt that the People's Republic of China will continue doing so in the future,” said Valery Mitskevich.
The vice speaker recalled that Belarus applied to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2024-2025. “We are counting on the confident, principled position of our Chinese friends,” he stressed. “We deem it necessary to maintain a global security dialogue in the true spirit of San Francisco, as was emphasized by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko. China, which plays a key role in global processes, also puts forward peace initiatives. We stick to the view that complex problems in the world can and should be resolved by political means through cooperation. We propose to join efforts to promote the initiatives put forward by our heads of state on international platforms,” Valery Mitskevich said.
“The two countries promote cooperation not only at the international level, but also at the regional level. 2021-2022 were declared the Years of Regions of the Republic of Belarus and China. Significant results have been achieved in interregional exchanges and cooperation in such areas as trade, economy, science, technology, education, culture, medicine and public healthcare, which gave an additional impetus to business contacts and friendship between the two peoples. Let's hope that the two countries will be able to maintain momentum, which might result in opening representative offices of regions of the two countries in Belarus and China,” Valery Mitskevich added.
