Call for deeper integration in CIS

MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – The CIS member states should opt for a deeper integration, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Leonid Anfimov told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“The economy comes first. A 29% increase in trade between the CIS countries in 2021 is quite an achievement. Yet, trade within the CIS accounts for only 19% of trade of the CIS states with other countries. This said, the CIS economy is the economy of the former Soviet Union that was self-sufficient,” Leonid Anfimov said.

According to him, the CIS countries should go for a deeper integration. “We could spearhead global economic growth. This should be the focus of our attention,” the first vice chairman noted.

On 18 January the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk is hosting a meeting of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives. The permanent plenipotentiaries will discuss the draft agenda of a regular meeting of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and approve the plan of work of the CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives for 2022.
