MINSK, 12 March (BelTA) – Cooperation in human rights must not be used for intimidation or pressure if we are truly promoting human rights rather than someone’s geopolitical interests, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus Larisa Belskaya said during the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, BelTA has learned.
“However, the ‘Belarusian issue’ on the Human Rights Council’s agenda is not about the fate of people in my country, it is not about human rights. It is about a struggle for power, for access to resources, for control over territory that is geopolitically important, especially in the event of a potential escalation of the military-political confrontation in Europe,” Larisa Belskaya emphasized.
Addressing the sponsors and organizers, those who pour in yet another hundreds of millions of euros and wonder who will prevail in a new attempt at a forceful change of power in Belarus, the Belarusian diplomat said: “Do not hope for it. The people will prevail, those who are firmly determined to defend their peaceful sky, their safe society, their sovereign path of development, and to build an independent foreign and domestic policy for a state in which Belarusians believe and which they support.”
