MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Stronger integration within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States should become the answer to world shocks. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement at a session of the CIS Heads of Government Council on 28 May, BelTA has learned.
According to Roman Golovchenko, the Commonwealth of Independent States faced a number of challenges and problems in 2020-2021. Practical interaction meant to bolster integration was complicated by consequences of the unending pandemic, which had a negative effect on the world economy, politics, and many spheres of life. “As the president of our country predicted, the pandemic resulted in an attempt to redistribute influence in the world. All the tools were used to achieve this goal. Unfortunately, the right of the strong prevails over international law. Countries, which are intent on observing national interests, social and economic stability, steady development on the basis of their traditions, are encountering attempts to undermine the existing systems, pressure, and blatant interference,” he said.
The official noted that Belarus had also encountered unprecedented and growing pressure of sanctions from the collective West. “We see how good neighborly and mutually beneficial economic ties become hostage to double standards. In these conditions cooperation with true friends and the closest partners becomes particularly precious. For Belarus those are no doubt the CIS states. The reinforcement of our regional integration can and should become the answer to world shocks. The CIS states have a colossal potential in many areas. Our economies are mutually complementary and self-sufficient. By actively expanding versatile cooperation, we can overcome crises much faster,” Roman Golovchenko stressed.
