MOSCOW, 22 March (BelTA) – Those, who use Internet to call for anti-state activities, should be punished. Chairman of the Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Gennady Davydko made the statement during the session of the Information Policy Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Moscow on 22 March, BelTA has learned. Gennady Davydko is also the chairman of the Information Policy Commission.
Internet appeals for anti-state activities should be punished, the MP stressed.
In his opinion, most of the problems in the information space are concentrated in the Internet and social networks. “We have to bring the legislation into compliance with world standards,” Gennady Davydko said. “When we talk about world standards, everybody thinks that things will loosen up. On the contrary, the USA and many European countries have the toughest laws. Our legislation on mass media is good but it looks very soft in comparison with Western legislation.”
Gennady Davydko noted that Belarus should also pay attention to China's experience of Internet regulation. But it does not mean that Internet presence should be restricted in some way, he clarified. “It is necessary to eliminate the coordinating, aggressive, terrorist capabilities that are present there. In our time we lost the Internet space. Now we are taking strides to catch up,” the MP added.
