Belarusian MP: European security system is actually dismantled

MINSK, 29 June (BelTA0 - The pan-European security system has been actually dismantled, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov said as he spoke at a meeting of the OSCE PA Standing Committee on the sidelines of the 32nd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Porto, Portugal, BelTA learned.

The Belarusian parliamentary delegation headed by Sergei Rachkov participates in the events of the 32nd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Porto. The Belarusian delegation includes Oleg Rummo, a member of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic.

“The European continent, which experienced two devastating world wars in the 20th century, has once again found itself in the midst of a deep conflict. Moreover, new hotbeds of tension and violence are erupting around the world. This, unfortunately, is increasingly perceived as a norm. The old notion of stability and predictability in international relations is collapsing before our eyes. “The world is in danger of sliding into assured destruction more than ever before unless resolute efforts are made to return to dialogue, trust and peaceful coexistence,” Sergei Rachkov said.

The pan-European security system has been actually dismantled, the MP said. “NATO acts to the detriment of other structures, ignoring alternative security formats that could be inclusive and take into account the interests of all,” he said. “The key goal of Belarus in the OSCE is not to accuse and make friends against anyone, but to find ways of ensuring security together with everyone. We remain convinced that we need immediate substantive and equal dialogue. Belarus is ready to play an active role in this process, advocating the development of a new security model covering not only Europe but also the whole of Eurasia.”

The emerging security architecture should be inclusive, based on the principle of indivisibility of security, respect for sovereignty, legitimate interests of all states and preventing their exclusion from the dialogue.
