Belarusian MFA, UNHCR exchange views on situation with refugees, migrants

MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) - Head of the Multilateral Diplomacy Department of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Irina Velichko met with Head of the UNCHR Office in Belarus Mulusew Mamo on 2 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties exchanged views on the situation with refugees and migrants seeking to reach the EU via Belarus, including the provision of humanitarian assistance by international organizations.

The parties discussed further coordination of joint work with a view to finding solutions in the best interests of refugees and migrants waiting for the response of the European Union states to their requests for access to international protection and asylum mechanisms in these countries.

Irina Velichko reaffirmed the importance of preserving the established channel of interaction with the international organizations in Belarus on the provision of humanitarian assistance and expressed gratitude for the active role of UNHCR.
