Belarusian MFA summons Ukrainian ambassador over flag incident in Dnepr

MINSK, 10 February (BelTA) – Belarus' Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Ukrainian Ambassador Igor Kizim to express a strong protest over the incident in the Ukrainian city of Dnepr where the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus was replaced by another symbol following a decision of the city mayor, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The Ukrainian side was told that Belarus views this cynical manifestation of the unfriendly policy towards a sovereign nation as an act of state vandalism that grossly violates the fundamental principles of international law: the principle of sovereign equality of states and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states and also the norms of international relations adopted in the civilized world, diplomatic and protocol practice," the ministry stressed.

The ambassador was notified that in case Ukraine fails to fulfill the requirements voiced at the meeting, the Belarusian side reserves the right to take further proportionate steps.
