Belarusian investigation into use of chemicals at Polish border in progress

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – Investigators will give a legal evaluation of the use of chemicals at the border, BelTA learned from Deputy Chief of the Grodno Oblast branch of Belarus' Investigative Committee Viktor Legan.

According to the source, a number of Belarusian and foreign citizens with bodily injuries caused by chemical substances requested medical aid on 16 November. The bodily injuries were received at the Belarusian-Polish border. An investigation team was dispatched to the border. The team includes representatives of the Grodno Oblast branch of Belarus' Investigative Committee and specialists of the State Forensic Examination Committee.

After examining the site of the incident the team recorded and collected traces indicating tear gas had been used using gas grenades. Traces of a chemical substance used together with water cannons were also found. Five citizens with the relevant bodily injuries had been questioned.

Work at the site continues. A legal evaluation of the incident will be provided.
