Belarusian FM: Some Western countries choose restrictions over dialogue

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – Some Western counter-partners of Belarus, instead of dialogue, are creating restrictions not only for Belarusians, but also for their own citizens, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik told the media following a meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto and a meeting of the Belarusian-Hungarian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Minsk on 29 May, BelTA has learned.

"A number of our counter-partners have abandoned the principles of normality and common sense in building bilateral relations, and international cooperation as a whole," Sergei Aleinik emphasized. "Unlike Hungary, instead of dialogue, they are building fences, creating artificial restrictions for our citizens and for their own citizens."

"It is difficult for us to understand it. But this is a fact," Sergei Aleinik noted. As a result, the business of those countries has incurred serious costs, the population faced negative consequences, and the situation is escalating with unpredictable consequences. Everyone has been affected by this, the minister believes.

"Against this background, it is gratifying (today's visit is an example of this) that in neighboring Europe there are forces and, most importantly, leaders who objectively assess the situation and understand that while holding a high state position one should act in the interests of their state and their people," the Belarusian minister added.
