Belarusian FM meets UN resident coordinator

MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs  Sergei Aleinik met with United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Belarus Rasul Baghirov who has presented his credentials signed by the UN secretary general, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  

The parties exchanged views on the current situation and prospects for the interaction between Belarus and the United Nations. The country’s social and economic development and the progress towards the sustainable development goals within the frameworks of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable development were outlined as the priorities of cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations.

 “The parties discussed the negative impact of the illegal policy of sanctions on sustainable development, including on the global food security, and the program activities of the United Nations in the Republic of Belarus,” the press service noted.

Sergei Aleinik invited Rasul Baghirov to attend the thematic session of the Sustainable Development Council dedicated to the International Memorial Day of the Chernobyl Disaster on 23 April 2024 and to contribute to the preparations and conduct of the second National Forum on Sustainable Development due on 19 July 2024.

“The parties agreed to continue developing constructive relations between Belarus and the United Nations,” the press service stressed.
