MOSCOW, 11 June (BelTA) - A diplomat is a patriot par excellence, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said as he took questions from students of MGIMO University in Moscow on 10 June, BelTA learned.
"The most important quality of a diplomat is patriotism. It is love for your homeland, respect for your people, their traditions. It is readiness to defend your people and your country in any situation in which you find yourself in professionally or otherwise," Maksim Ryzhenkov said. “Other qualities also include demeanor, self-control and self-respect. The way you present yourself influences how others perceive and respect you. A diplomat should be available to resolve issues at any time," the minister added.
He noted that MGIMO graduates hold many high offices in Belarus. "As Minister of Foreign Affairs, I would very much hope that students from Belarus will come to work with us. We are counting on you, we are waiting for you. We picked up some of you - the most talented, trained and qualified - to study here and later contribute to the development of our state," Maksim Ryzhenkov emphasized.
