Belarusian FM completes visit to Saudi Arabia

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik has completed his official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the visit the Belarusian foreign minister held talks with Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia and delivered messages from the Belarusian president to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince, Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The documents focus on bilateral relations and ways to further develop and boost them in various fields.

“Industrial, scientific and business clusters of cooperation between the two countries were considered in a targeted manner as part of the visit,” the ministry explained. The Belarusian delegation met with the head of the partner structure of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus - President of King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology Dr. Munir bin Mahmoud El-Desouki and focused the main attention on ways to activate scientific cooperation, identify new promising research projects and develop contacts between scientists. Agreements were reached to resume joint work on a number of fundamental and applied projects, and also exchange visits of scientists and researchers from the two countries.

The talks with Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia Bandar bin Ibrahim AlKhorayef highlighted the opportunities for industrial cooperation, supplies of Belarusian machinery, and prospects for joint projects in third countries. Special attention was paid to the existing niches for Belarus to join the large-scale economic diversification program Vision 2030 implemented by Saudi Arabia. 

The Belarusian delegation, including the heads of the National Marketing Center and the Hi-Tech Park, held a number of side events aimed at promoting cooperation between business communities and in high technology. “A number of practical agreements were reached, which will be implemented already this year and will give a new impetus to direct contacts and projects between the businesses of Belarus and Saudi Arabia,” the ministry said. “The National Center for Marketing of Belarus and the Federation for Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry have signed a memorandum of understanding.”
