Belarusian diaspora in U.S. calls for closer ties between nations

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) - In today’s difficult global circumstances, it is important to bring peoples and countries closer together, rather than set them against each other, Alla Sandler, a representative of the Belarusian diaspora from Baltimore, USA, told BelTA following the 10th meeting of the Advisory Council for Belarusians Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, taking place in Minsk on 9 December.

At the opening of the meeting, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov highlighted the significant role of Belarusian diasporas in promoting national culture and ideas abroad.

Alla Sandler is a regular participant in such meetings and gladly returns to her homeland, Belarus. “It is a pleasure to meet, communicate, exchange opinions, and see how Belarus is developing. Every trip back home is a great happiness. I was born in Belarus and love everything connected with it. You feel warmth as soon as you cross the Belarusian border and talk with compatriots. These are always very pleasant emotions,” she said.

She also explained that she works to promote Belarusian culture, mainly through organizing various events, most of them concerts. Alla Sandler noted that one of the carriers of national culture is cuisine, including traditional Belarusian draniki (potato pancakes).

She emphasized: “We hope that relations between our countries will warm, and then there will be more projects and reasons to come to Belarus.”
