MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – To protect memory of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War is our sacred duty, Deputy Head of the Information Management Office of the Central Ideology Office of the Belarusian Defense Ministry Denis Fedorov told BelTA on 30 March.
Denis Fedorov said: “To revise the history of World War Two is a strategic and ideological task of Western countries. For them the victory cannot be the foundation of pride that unites generations because there were no winning countries among countries of the European Union. There were liberated countries at best or at worst allies of Germany, neutral countries, and simply defeated countries, which in essence gave up fighting, allowed themselves to be conquered, and worked for the benefit of the German economy. This is why residents of most of the European countries have nothing to be proud of in this regard. They didn't live through what peoples of the Soviet Union had to endure in the occupied territories. Our historical memory should be the foundation of pride, which will allow uniting all the generations of Belarusian citizens. It is our sacred duty to protect memory of the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War.”
“European elites are trying to force us, descendants of the heroes, to feel guilt for our fathers and grandfathers, who gave their lives to secure peace for the mankind. To adjust the memory of the war to suit their own goals is an opportunity for Europeans to whitewash themselves,” he noted.
“The rewriting of the history of the war benefits Germany, too. If the Third Reich and the USSR are equally responsible for starting that war, the historical guilt of the Germans does not look that absolute. The revision of history of World War Two benefits those who cooperated with fascist collaborationists. If the history is rewritten, they would not be remembered for participating in the genocide of their own people but for fighting on the side of a geopolitical bloc for their national ideals. By stipulating that the USSR is de facto a criminal state, the West lays down the foundation for revising results of World War Two,” Denis Fedorov stressed. “The falsification of history benefits the entire Western world as a tool to weaken Russia in the international scene, a tool to diminish the role of the Soviet Union and respectively the role of post-soviet countries, including Belarus, in the victory over fascism. The ultimate goal of those behind the falsification of World War Two history is global supremacy, the defamation of the Great Victory, and the conversion of the USSR from a winning state into an aggressor state, from a liberator of Europe into an invader.”
