Belarusian companies promised aid with filing sanction-related suits in international courts

MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will help companies and citizens with filing suits related to Western sanctions in international courts, BelTA learned from Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 6 July.

Vladimir Makei said: “Work is in progress. It is truly a very important aspect. Although we feel no special illusions considering it requires a lot of time and financial resources. And I don't rule out the possibility that European courts will be politically biased, frankly speaking. Nevertheless, we have to explore all the possibilities. This is why we've suggested the enterprises and legal persons the sanctions target should appeal to various European courts. We've suggested the procedure for working with these courts.”

In his words, the ministry will also help citizens, who would like to dispute the sanctions of the European Union.

BelTA reported earlier that during the government conference held on 6 July to discuss ways to counteract the sanctions against the country Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko wondered what diplomats were doing in international organizations and international courts in order to counteract sanctions. “Honestly speaking, one gets a feeling that our diplomats are keeping a low profile and keeping their heads down. I've already said there is a bunch of international courts. Why are we not going to court, and if we do why does our society not know about it?” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
