Belarusian ambassador highlights key trends in cooperation with Russia

MOSCOW, 24 September (BelTA) - Belarus has maintained the volume of its exports to Russia during the current period, despite some difficulties with machinery supplies, Belarus’ Ambassador to Russia Aleksandr Rogozhnik told the media, BelTA has learned.

“Looking at the results of the current period, it should be noted that our exports to the Russian Federation have not decreased. There are some issues with exports of machinery products, but these are due to fairly objective reasons. The same decline is being seen with Russian freight and passenger transport, forage harvesters,” the ambassador said.

He stressed that during his frequent visits to Russian regions, new orders for various types of equipment continue to appear. “The most important thing here is not to sit idly, but to keep moving forward," Ambassador Aleksandr Rogozhnik emphasized.

He also noted that cooperation in the construction sector is actively gaining momentum, as Belarus is involved in construction projects in neighboring Russian regions. These projects include the construction of social facilities, which are part of Russia's national projects, such as schools, preschools, maternity hospitals, and clinics.

“And so it is in every area. This includes the petrochemical sector and projects related to environmental issues. For instance, we are ready to provide waste-processing plants and water treatment systems. The range is very broad. Together with Russia’s Industry and Trade Ministry, we have already agreed on lists of areas where we will complement each other, covering everything from aviation to the manufacturing industry and equipment production,” the ambassador explained.

Joint import-substitution projects with Russia are already at an advanced stage of completion, and the parties will soon discuss the format of the next phase of cooperation in this area. “We are currently utilizing the first tranche that we received. The 27 projects we are implementing are already at a high degree of completion. Certainly, once this stage is completed, we and the Russian Federation will discuss the format of the next phase and our movement forward. The interest is mutual,” the diplomat said in response to a BelTA correspondent’s question.

As BelTA previously reported, Aleksandr Lukashenko will pay a working visit to the Russian Federation on 25-26 September, where he is set to take part in the international forum World Atomic Week and hold a bilateral meeting with Vladimir Putin. “The two leaders will coordinate positions on the most pressing issues of Belarusian-Russian relations and discuss the regional situation and the international agenda,” the Belarusian leader’s press service noted.
