
MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) - On the sidelines of the 32nd Annual Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Porto, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Sergei Rachkov and member of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Oleg Rummo met with Türkiye’s parliamentary delegation to the OSCE PA, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.
The parties noted that the friendly relations are more important than ever for both countries. Türkiye is a reliable strategic partner of Belarus. Despite Western pressure, Ankara provides support to Belarus in its foreign policy.
Interest was expressed in continuing the inter-parliamentary dialogue. In this regard, Sergei Rachkov, head of the group for cooperation with the Turkish Parliament, invited the head of the Türkiye-Belarus parliamentary friendship group Selman Eser to visit Belarus. The parties expressed confidence that cooperation in international organizations, including on provision of support for candidates to elected UN bodies, will contribute to promoting a peaceful and unifying agenda.
Belarusian MPs supported the draft Turkish supplementary resolution on preventing the radicalization of youth leading to violent extremism and terrorism through education, media and information literacy. It was emphasized that the text of the document corresponds to the approaches of Belarus to counter terrorism and extremism.
It was also noted that the Republic of Belarus co-sponsored Turkish amendments to other documents considered at the session - on the principle of OSCE consensus, which guarantees equality of states and creates conditions for strict implementation of decisions, and on the topic of elections.
The parties stressed the importance of preserving traditional values and protecting historical memory. The victory over Nazism and the Helsinki Final Act became the foundation of an international order based on equality and respect for sovereignty and laid the foundation for dialogue among states with different political and economic systems.
The Belarusian parliamentarians assured their Turkish colleagues that Belarus still stands for preserving the memory of the lessons of World War II, an international system based on justice, law and equality, and joining forces to find solutions necessary to strengthen peace in the region.
