Belarus to take part in UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – The official delegation of the Republic of Belarus led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov is in Geneva on 24-26 February to take part in high-level segments of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) and the Conference on Disarmament, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The program of the visit includes speeches by the foreign minister at high-level events, participation in a ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, as well as talks with the leadership of the UN organizations located in Geneva.

Maksim Ryzhenkov will present Belarus' position on regional and global security,  Belarus' take on the activities of the Human Rights Council with an emphasis on problems and ways to resolve them, and the main priorities of the Belarusian chairmanship in the EAEU.

The focus will be made on illegal use by individual countries of unilateral coercive measures that violate the UN Charter and human rights.

During his stay in Geneva, the foreign minister is scheduled to have bilateral meetings with counterparts from Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

In addition, there are plans to discuss the general agenda and specific aspects of  interstate cooperation.
