MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Spain plan to sign an intergovernmental memorandum of cooperation in economy and industry, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus in France.
Issues related to the development of Belarusian-Spanish relations were a major focus of interest during a working visit of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France and Spain Pavel Latushko to Spain on 12-13 November.
While in Madrid, the Belarusian diplomat held eight meetings with representatives of government bodies, cultural establishments and public organizations. Pavel Latushko met with Director General for Foreign Policy, Multilateral Diplomacy and Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain Ignacio Ibanez. The parties discussed the prospects of developing bilateral relations. Special attention was paid to the development of trade and economic relations, the organization of future meetings at the level of agencies responsible for the trade and economic policy issues, organization of mutual business visits between the two countries. The parties also talked over the development of the legal framework, cooperation in tourism and culture, discussed the relations between Belarus and the EU.
Pavel Latushko met with Director General for International Trade and Investment at the Ministry of Economy of Spain Antonio Fernandez-Martos. The Spanish side was presented with the response draft intergovernmental memorandum of cooperation in economy and industry. The parties agreed to sign the memorandum in the near future to set up an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.
An agreement was reached to assist the signing of the bilateral ministerial agreement on standardization and certification. The parties agreed to launch the preparations for signing an agreement on avoidance of double taxation and mutual protection of investments. The parties hailed the mutual growth in supplies of goods between Belarus and Spain in 2013 and over the first nine months of 2014.
Meetings at the Confederation of Industrialists of Spain and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid ended up with an agreement to organize a visit for Spanish businessmen to Belarus.
Pavel Latushko met with Director General of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain Montserrat Iglesias. The parties discussed the details of the forthcoming Belarusian Evening in Madrid in December and the Days of Belarusian Culture in Spain in 2015. The sides agreed to look into the opportunities for mutual participation of theater companies in festivals of the two countries, consider the possibility of signing a memorandum between the cultural ministries.
The Belarusian diplomat held meetings with heads of the Lazaro Galdiano Foundation, the Cultural Center of the city of El Escorial, the public organization Lingua. The talks highlighted the issues related to the development of relations with the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the organization of exhibitions of contemporary Belarusian artists, the implementation of humanitarian projects in various areas.
Pavel Latushko paid a visit to Alicante, Valencia. The talks focused on the issues related to the development of trade and economic cooperation of Belarus with the region of Valencia and the city of Alicante, organization of cultural projects, development of tourism cooperation, the possibility to establish an honorary consulate in this part of Spain.
