MINSK, 11 September (BelTA) – Belarus is keen to intensify cooperation with Vatican, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he met with Secretary for Relations with States within the Holy See's Secretariat of State, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher who is visiting Belarus, BelTA has learned.
“Your visit proves that Belarus and the Holy See have special relations of mutual understanding and trust. We are satisfied with the dynamics of the development of contacts at the high and highest levels,” Vladimir Makei said.
He noted that the Belarusian president visited Vatican twice. Vladimir Makei also repeated the invitation to the Pope to visit Belarus, which is still on the agenda.
Vladimir Makei hailed the high level of cooperation between Belarus and the Holy See within the UN as the parties have shared principles and moral values. “We appreciate the Holy See's attention and support to the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking,” he added.
The foreign minister stressed that Belarus intends to continue working with Vatican in this field. Moreover, the parties also cooperate within the UN in protection of family values.
“We have good and fruitful relations with the Holy See. We would like to develop and strengthen our cooperation in all areas,” Vladimir Makei added.
