Belarus seeks closer ties with Libya in agriculture, manufacturing industry, healthcare

MINSK, 1 July (BelTA) – Belarus is keen to develop cooperation with Libya in agriculture, manufacturing industry, and healthcare, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said during a meeing with a Libyan government delegation led by Prime Minister of Libya (Government of National Stability) Dr. Osama Hamad, BelTA has learned.

“In just four months, this is already the fourth Belarusian-Libyan meeting, which speaks to a mutual interest in developing traditionally friendly bilateral relations between our peoples. In the context of these meetings, our president has tasked us with moving toward concrete economic projects that serve the interests of our nations. We have identified agriculture and food security, manufacturing industry, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, education and human capital development, disaster prevention and emergency response as promising areas of cooperation,” Aleksandr Turchin stressed.

He emphasized that Belarus possesses significant export potential, and its supply geography spans over 100 countries around the world. The country holds notable positions in the export of dairy and meat products. “The initial product lineup for your country has already been determined,” the prime minister added. “It includes baby food, animal feed, and locust control agents.”

“Belarus is a high-tech nation that manufactures a wide range of tractors for various purposes, passenger and cargo vehicles, agricultural, road construction, and utility equipment. Our final products meet all modern standards and offer long service life. As part of the deliveries, we will, certainly, provide technical support along with service maintenance and personnel training. Belarus is also renowned for the quality of its healthcare. In 2024, medical assistance was provided to over 160,000 foreign citizens from 159 countries worldwide, including over 1,000 Libyan nationals who sought medical services,” the head of the Belarusian government noted.

Another area of cooperation is the education of Libyan students at Belarusian universities, including medical institutions.

“Given your systematic approach to implementing planned initiatives, I am confident that your side will support mutually beneficial proposals. I look forward to hearing your ideas on our promising areas of cooperation,” Aleksandr Turchin concluded.

Dr. Osama Hamad, in turn, thanked the Belarusian side for its hospitality and the efforts made to strengthen bilateral relations. “Recently, we [Belarus and Libya] have held a number of visits and meetings between relevant agencies and specialists. One of the achievements was the signing of a memorandum, which has become a kind of roadmap for developing our cooperation in the most promising sectors to benefit our countries and meet the aspirations of our peoples. Bilateral documents were also signed in the areas of agriculture, healthcare, emergency response, and others. Our agreements support joint projects in industry, education, human capital development, cooperation in agriculture, the exchange of experience and personnel to counter the consequences of emergencies. Our countries have a long history of relations and common interests. We believe in our common future and see Belarus as a promising partner,” he stated.
