MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) – The United States seeks to maintain dominance by destroying the emerging Russia-China axis, State Secretary of the Belarusian Security Council Aleksandr Volfovich said in an interview with the Russian magazine Natsionalnaya Oborona [National Defense], BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Volfovich noted that the world is steadily moving towards a new world order and is going through an extremely tense phase in relations between the main centers of power.
"The United States seeks to maintain dominance by destroying the emerging Russia-China axis and preventing Russia from dialogue with healthy forces in the European Union that do not accept the dictate of the White House. This is the reason for the UK's exit from the EU, the new military alliance AUКUS, and a number of other economic, political and military transformations, the purpose of which is to prevent the emergence of the future world order alternative to Pax-Americana," the state secretary noted.
According to him, such important organizations in the field of security as the UN and the OSCE are losing effective mechanisms for responding to new challenges and threats. As a result, the crisis of confidence in these international structures is deepening, the authority of these organizations is dwindling. "Informal and regional associations (G20, SCO, CSTO and others) are coming to the fore. They are providing the floor to regional leaders who advocate the ‘rule of law' rather than the ‘rule of force',” Aleksandr Volfovich noted.
“The dismantling of the former arms control treaty system and the expansionist policy of the collective West have provoked a new round of arms race. The U.S. withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 2019, the Open Skies Treaty in 2020, and Russia's forced withdrawal from the treaty in 2021 have undermined the strategic stability. Judge for yourself, there are currently more than 30 large-scale wars and conflicts (Libya, Syria, Somalia, Ukraine, Yemen, and others),” the state secretary of the Security Council said.
In his words, the willingness to use military force to secure their national interests has been formalized at the doctrinal level abroad. The trend towards accelerated militarization of the world's leading countries and the growth of their military activity is clearly visible. “At the extraordinary meeting of the NATO Council in March 2022 they decided to increase defense spending and enhance the offensive capabilities. Particular attention is paid to the development of new weapons systems - hypersonic missiles, autonomous robotic complexes and weapons based on new physical principles (laser, electromagnetic and others),” Aleksandr Volfovich said.
Work is underway to modernize tactical nuclear warheads and their storage sites, the state secretary stressed. Technology and materials for nuclear weapons are provided to non-nuclear states. In addition to known states that have nuclear weapons or are suspected of having such weapons, according to expert estimates, there are about 20-30 other countries that possess the technology of making an atomic bomb in a short period of time.
