Belarus-Russia cooperation level praised

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia have achieved a lot in bilateral cooperation, and the two countries are set to continue deepening it, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik told BelTA.

“Belarusian-Russian cooperation has been steadily developing. But, there is no limit to perfection. We have really achieved a lot in our union building. We post record-high volumes of trade. We have an ambitious program of industrial cooperation. Interregional cooperation has been developing quite intensively. Over the last four years we have managed to double the export of Belarusian products to Russia. This figures speak for themselves,” the minister of foreign affairs said.

He is confident that the prospects of Belarusian-Russian cooperation are very multifaceted. “In the complicated conditions, in which both Belarus and Russia are, under unprecedented sanctions pressure, we are aimed at strengthening our integration, foreign policy coordination, joint counteraction to illegal sanctions and will do everything to develop, deepen and continue this work,” Sergei Aleinik said.

The trade between Belarus and Russia amounted to $48.7 billion in 2023, which is 6.3% higher than in 2022. Exports exceeded $25 billion. Imports totaled $23.6 billion. The export of Belarusian services in 2023 amounted to $3.6 billion.

This year, trade between the two countries also tends to continue growing. In January-March 2024, the trade amounted to more than $12 billion, which is 4.2% up from in the same period a year ago.
