Belarus, Qatar discuss ways to intensify trade, economic cooperation

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The 6th round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar took place in Doha on 21 January, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evgeny Shestakov, the Qatari delegation was headed by Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmad Hassen Al-Hammadi.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral, regional and international agenda. A message from Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik was conveyed to Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The message focused on key aspects of bilateral relations.

“The heads of the delegations discussed the schedule of upcoming bilateral events. They emphasized their interest in intensifying the exchange of visits at the highest and high levels,” the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed.

The parties expressed interest in holding the next meeting of the joint intergovernmental cooperation committee as soon as possible and reiterated their determination to ramp up bilateral contacts across the board.

“The diplomats discussed in detail possible ways to deepen trade, economic and investment cooperation, develop the legal framework, encourage mutual travels, including by launching direct and charter flights between Minsk and Doha. Substantive agreements were reached on the priority steps to promote bilateral interaction,” the foreign ministry noted.
