Belarus President Administration head condemns demolition of Soviet monuments in western countries

MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – History does not forgive such things. Head of the Belarus President Administration Igor Sergeyenko made the statement as he commented on the demolition of monuments to Soviet liberator-warriors in western countries, BelTA has learned.

Igor Sergeyenko said: “What is going on in European countries when monuments to Soviet liberator-warriors, who gave their lives, are being demolished… 600,000 Soviet soldiers and officers, who liberated the country, died in Poland alone. The capture of Berlin cost massive casualties. What is going on today invokes feelings of resentment and anger in me personally. What can one feel about it? When everyone supported it for 80 years, when Europe's liberation from the Nazi was identified with the heroic deeds of Soviet soldiers? Now history is being turned in the opposite direction.”

The official said that history does not forgive such things. “I'd say it is mean-spirited,” he noted.
