Belarus’ PM calls on SCO to discuss Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in 21st Century

ISLAMABAD, 16 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko called upon the SCO countries to actively participate in the discussion on the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the XXI century as he spoke during a meeting of the Heads of Government Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states on 16 October, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to emphasize the importance of preserving peace and security in the Eurasian region. Conflicts and instability bring economic losses, reduced investment and lower living standards for the population. In this connection, I would like once again to draw your attention to the initiative of the president of Belarus to develop the Eurasian Charter of Diversity and Multipolarity in the 21st Century. The main goal is a common understanding of the contours of Eurasian security based on the principles of justice, equality and indivisibility of security. We are not talking about creating some kind of anti-NATO or replacing the role of the UN. We are talking about the fact that in the end all decisions on issues of peace and security, building a common future should be made taking into account the opinion of the global majority, not a narrow club of Western states,” Roman Golovchenko said.

According to him, a substantive discussion of the issue will continue during the 2nd Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security that will open on 31 October. “We hope that the main structural elements of the future document will be formulated during the conference. We urge the SCO countries to actively participate in the discussion on the topics of the charter, as well as in the international conference in general. Relevant invitations have been sent through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the SCO Secretariat,” the prime minister said.
