MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vladimir Borovikov took part in the 418th meeting of the Advisory Committee of Permanent Representatives and Other Representatives of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) as a permanent observer, the Belarusian Embassy in Vietnam told BelTA.

The meeting reviewed ESCAP’s past events, including the annual session held in April 2025. Participants also discussed upcoming commission activities and the Advisory Committee’s work plan for 2025-2026. Special attention was given to the UN80 Initiative by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, which includes the Second World Summit for Social Development, scheduled for 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand. Established in 1947, ESCAP was created to promote economic cooperation among member states. It is the largest of the five UN regional commissions, both in terms of geographical coverage and population size. ESCAP's primary mission is to manage globalization processes in areas such as environmentally sustainable development, trade, and human rights. The commission works to address major regional challenges through projects, technical assistance, and capacity-building initiatives for its member states.
