Belarus, Pakistan seek to deepen ties

MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Belarus Sajjad Haider Khan on 12 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties exchanged congratulatory messages on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Pakistan (on 3 February 1994).

The parties praised the high level of Belarusian-Pakistani ties achieved over the past three decades. Special emphasis was placed on the results of cooperation between Belarus and Pakistan in the trade and economic sector. The parties noted the positive dynamics of interaction between the two countries in international organizations.

Belarus expressed gratitude to Pakistan for supporting its application to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and for promptly ratifying the Memorandum of Understanding on Obligations in order to obtain the status of an SCO member state. The parties also discussed issues of interaction in all dimensions of the SCO.

The parties outlined the work plans for 2024, including exchange of visits, ministerial consultations and a number of thematic events to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations. Mutual interest in intensifying the whole range of bilateral relations between Belarus and Pakistan was confirmed.
