Pakistani citizens are familiar with the word “Belarus” thanks to Belarus tractors that have been supplied to the Pakistani market for more than 50 years.

An important milestone of bilateral cooperation was the mutual opening of embassies in the capitals of both countries in 2014 and 2015.

Over the past period the parties have created all conditions for the development of full-scale cooperation in all areas, expanded the legal framework and organized the work of the necessary mechanisms of institutional interaction in the form of commissions, working groups, and the Business Council. For example the joint Belarusian-Pakistani commission for trade and economic cooperation was launched in 2015.

The economies of Belarus and Pakistan are mutually complementary. Belarus’ major exports to Pakistan include tractors, potash fertilizers, synthetic fibers, tires, synthetic thread bundles, and baby food (dry mixes). Major imports to Belarus are rice, food products, leather goods, fabrics, sports equipment. The work on setting up assembly production of Belarusian tractors in Pakistan is already underway.

Government bodies, agencies and business communities of Belarus and Pakistan maintain regular contacts. The parliaments of the two countries keep in touch. All Belarusian regions have established partnership relations with the Pakistani provinces.

The prerequisites for the development of bilateral cooperation in education, science and culture have been created. A center of Belarusian language and culture was opened in the National University of Modern Languages of Pakistan. The Department of the Urdu language was opened in Minsk State Linguistic University.

The National Library of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has opened the Belarusian Information and Cultural Center which has books on literature on the history, culture and nature of Belarus and information materials on the Belarusian statehood. The center to coordinate Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation in R&D and innovations operates at  the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research.

To mark the anniversary of the diplomatic relations, a festive ticker in Belarusian and English was launched on the National Library of Belarus.

The Belarusian Ministry of Communications and Informatization together with the national mail service Belpochta and the Embassy of Belarus in Pakistan prepared a commemorative postal project to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
