
MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Sekreta met with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu. This is the first meeting of a high-level representative of Belarus with the new OSCE head, BelTA learned from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to international organizations in Vienna.
The parties discussed the situation in the OSCE region, ways to restore the role of the Organization, internal processes in the OSCE and practical interaction between Belarus and the OSCE executive bodies.
Igor Sekreta highlighted the importance of Belarus’ contribution to the OSCE. For example, on the initiative of Minsk the measures to combat human trafficking were implemented 2017-2019, including a high-level event at the Ministerial Council in Vienna. Belarus has made a voluntary financial contribution to the OSCE extrabudgetary project focused on combating human trafficking.
The Belarusian diplomat noted that Belarus is open for cooperation with OSCE institutions on media and journalists, humanitarian matters and elections, but insists on depoliticized, mutually respectful and professional dialogue.
