MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus was officially inaugurated in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia on 26 June, BelTA has learned.
The event took place on the sidelines of the 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. Attending the opening ceremony were Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko and Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova.
“Indeed, this is a very significant event. Previously, Nizhny Novgorod had an embassy branch. Now, it has a full-fledged consulate general,” Consul General of Belarus in Nizhny Novgorod Oleg Shvets stressed. “This addresses two key issues. First, it improves the convenience of consular services for our citizens. The consulate has broader authority, allowing many matters to be resolved locally without the need to travel to Moscow. Second, and equally important, it strengthens trade and economic cooperation between our countries. It supports the expansion of cooperative supply chains and helps address the tasks set by our government.”
Natalya Kochanova and Valentina Matviyenko also took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame memorial in the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin.

The 12th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia began the day before, but its main program officially launched today. The forum aims to strengthen trade, economic, scientific, educational, and cultural ties between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. It is focused on expanding business contacts and developing promising areas of bilateral cooperation.
