Belarus, Myanmar discuss prospects for cooperation

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov held talks with Deputy Prime Minister, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Than Swe during the official visit of Belarus’ delegation to Myanmar on 9 January, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parties highlighted the similarity of views on a number of international issues, discussed the current state of bilateral relations, identified areas of political, economic and humanitarian cooperation and outlined the schedule of contacts for 2025.

The ministers agreed to focus on finalizing the draft bilateral documents and to develop the bilateral legal framework.

Maksim Ryzhenkov met with Chairman of Myanmar Economic Corporation Nyo Saw, Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Kan Zaw and Minister for Commerce Tun Ohn to discuss trade and economic cooperation.

Maksim Ryzhenkov proposed to intensify the work of the joint Belarusian-Myanmar committee for trade and economic cooperation in order to maintain the momentum for mutual trade.

The parties also discussed bilateral projects in manufacturing industry, agriculture, and other areas. The sides initialed the Memorandum of Intentions on joint actions to promote Belarusian-Myanmar cooperation.

During a meeting with Maksim Ryzhenkov Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister of Myanmar Min Aung Hlaing welcomed the visit of the Belarusian delegation and reaffirmed the commitment to developing comprehensive cooperation with Belarus.

The parties focused on mutual trade, diversification of supplies, cooperation ties, education, science, and mass media.

On 9 January, representatives of the ministries and enterprises who arrived in Myanmar as part of the Belarusian delegation held a number of meetings with their Myanmar colleagues and partners in the cities of Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon.
