Belarus' MP welcomes foreign ministry's decision to expel Polish consul

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – In an interview with BelTA Oleg Gaidukevich, member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, has welcomed the decision of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to expel the Polish consul.

“The decision by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs deserves applause and support. No one has the right to tell Belarus what to do or to disregard our traditions, history and laws. Our response to the sanctions should be even tougher. We mean what we say. We want normal, good relations with our neighbors, but they should drop their condescending tone and attempts to put pressure on us. Deal with your own issues. The European Union cannot sort out its own problems that have been building up for decades, from disagreements inside the EU to the migration crisis, problems with democracy, and so on. Nevertheless, everyone wants to teach us. Here is the main point. It is clear that no one in Poland cares about democracy in our country. It is a bogus narrative. They are only interested in geopolitics and their own interests. For this, they give free meals to our political vagabonds in hotels,” Oleg Gaidukevich said.

A reminder, Polish Charge d'Affaires in Belarus Marcin Wojciechowski was summoned to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 9 March. The Belarusian side protested the participation of Consul of the Consulate General of Poland in Brest Jerzy Timofiejuk in an unofficial event timed to the “day of the cursed soldiers”. The event took place in Brest on 28 February and involved representatives of non-governmental and youth organizations with ties to Poland. The Polish side was handed a note, which suggests that Consul of the Consulate General of Poland in Brest Jerzy Timofiejuk should leave Belarus' territory.
